Salma Barakat is an Egyptian-Greek designer and artist based between Athens and Cairo. Practicing under ‘Ba’, named after the ancient concept of the Soul’s unique imprint, Salma collaborates with Egyptian artisans to translate her gestural designs into tactile tapestries using traditional pedal looms.
In ‘Figures of Light,’ Salma explores the elements of physical and spiritual landscapes in abstract form — where the notion of ‘light’ represents contemporary unveilings, where light is shown on Truths, both material and societal.
Grounded in her process of fluid ink strokes and pastel texturing, Salma creates a sonorous, scriptural dimension, expressed in her unique intuited language.
