Heart Rests Twice is a concert series taking place across five Thursday nights at murmur as part of Sonic Acts Biennial 2026, Melted for Love. This third edition explores time as memory in motion – held, carried, and passed on – with artists building counter-archives through improvisation and sound, reaching for what remains of home.
Kween presents a new work that weaves archival material into a meditation on home – not as a fixed place, but as an embodied experience shaped by socio-cultural conditions and the tensions of longing or resisting belonging. Using cassette recordings exchanged between their mother and grandmother in 1990s Syria, alongside collected visual and audio materials, Kween layers and loops traditional Arabic instruments with their voice, creating a space where connection and dislocation coexist.
Cairo-based composer and sound artist Nancy Mounir uncovers what remains of home: traces carved in stone, preserved in books, and embedded in the land, attending to what is overlooked, fragmented, or erased. Through electroacoustic composition and live performance, Mounir explores reminiscence, continuing a trajectory begun with her album Nozhet El Nofous (2022), with a focus on ‘non-existent’ memories, lost frequencies, and microtonality.
Virus2020 presents a live electroacoustic performance developed through research on handmade hybrid wind instruments in dialogue with electronics. Breath, noise, and machines converge into a fractured, ritualistic sound field, reflecting on memory, transformation, and uncertain futures.
Across Heart Rests Twice, artists explore ideas of home, place, and belonging through attentive, shared listening. In murmur’s surround sound space in Amsterdam Noord, each concert is followed by a Q&A, opening space for reflection and conversation.
The Sonic Acts Biennial 2026 takes place from 5 February to 29 March 2026 in Amsterdam, with 80 events across 20 venues, featuring work by 200+ artists. This large-scale arts manifestation includes concerts, listening sessions, a symposium, film screenings, exhibitions, masterclasses, workshops, and site-specific projects.
