𓇌 kitchen take-over by Tomás Syder Queiroz 𓇌

Tomás Syder Queiroz (b. 1999) is a Portuguese multimedia artist and cook whose research approaches food as personal ethnographic material. Through recipes, films, objects, and sound, they explore the space between speculative proposals and documentary practices.

After completing a bachelor’s degree in Communication Design at Lisbon’s University of Fine Arts in 2020, they undertook a course in Food Anthropology at Lisbon’s School of Social Sciences and Humanities. There, they began to understand food as a conduit for identity, culture, and history. More recently, they graduated from a two-year Design master’s programme at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam, where they researched the intersections of design, sound, and food. Beyond a field of inquiry, food remains an essential part of their life, manifesting across projects both professional and personal.

They continue to develop their taste and knowledge by shaping recipes and ideas that reflect their own culinary perspective. Central to their interest is the body as a gathering point: an artifact that records and senses the subtle, unconsciously choreographed gestures of everyday life. Within this framework, the kitchen becomes a site of research, engaging directly with the emotional registers that inform their practice.

For this weekend special at Murmur, Tomás pays tribute to the women who taught them how to love and respect food. Inspired by their mother’s favourite dishes, they revisit long-established Portuguese recipes, sharing a personal slice of their history through a menu that reflects the rich and layered culinary world they grew up with.
